AUGUST
Pattern: Give a Hoot by Jocelyn Tunney of Kelbourne Woolens.

Yarn: Berroco Peruvia OR Cascade Soft Spun
These adorable mittens are a quick knit, and have an owl-shaped cable that is just charming. We found in knitting them at the pattern gauge (18 sts per 4") gave us a smallish mitten, but for people like Shelly, with big ole hands, a gauge of 15-16 sts per 4" was a more comfortable size. Thanks very much to the kind folks at Kelbourne Woolens for giving us permission to use this pattern.
Please print your own copy of the pattern, as we are unable to provide copies in the shop. Thanks!

JULY
Pattern: Verdigris by Rosemary Hill.

Yarn: Your choice of Crystal Palace Sock Yarns
Choose a happy blend of bamboo, soy, cotton, or silk for your fingerless mitts this time around. Get the pattern here.
Notes from Jackie:
* After row 8, I was worried about removing the waste yarn from the cast on edge but the stitches stayed just where they were suppose to and made a beautiful edge.
* I recommend using the Cabling without a Cable Needle for the cables on this pattern. It goes quickly and is a great technique to have in your knitting arsenal. Here’s a link to a tutorial by Wendy Johnson. This one is by Knitty (at the bottom of the article.)
* This pattern has a fantastic bind off. It’s a little complicated but once you get into the rhythm it’s easy and looks great.

MAY
Pattern: Mitered Mittens by Elizabeth Zimmermann.

Yarn: Ultra Alpaca (worsted) by Berroco.
Join the legions of fans who revere Elizabeth Zimmermann by knitting her simple, quick Mitered Mittens. They are the May pattern in her book, The Knitter's Almanac. The book is $7.95 before your club discount.
As you can see, I've started mine, but at the time of posting haven't gotten them done. Keep checking back for progress. I'm doing mine on two circular needles, but Elizabeth specifies double-pointed needles. Do what you want! Stripe or don't stripe - up to you. -Shelly
