Pattern: Mrs. Watts' Lace by Jennifer Hudson & Deb Romero.
Yarn: Kraemer Saucon Sock. 44% cotton, 43% acrylic, 13% nylon. 430 yds/100g.

Following are the patterns from the past Sock of the Month clubs:
JANUARY 2010

Pattern: Spring Thaw Socks by Cat Bordhi.
Yarn: Your choice.
I know, it's January. But since we're going on hiatus, we'll really be missing the appropriate month for Spring Thaw Socks. So think of this as a preview of good things (and weather) to come. These are a blast to knit. I'm only 6 or so inches in as of today (January 1st), but I'm loving it. I'm using Saucon Sock by Kraemer. You use whatever you like. The pattern is from th e Summer 2008 issue of Knitter's Magazine, and we have plenty of copies in the shop.

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
DECEMBER 2009

Pattern: Flannery by spillyjane knits

NOVEMBER 2009

Something different! Construction on the bias, unlike any sock you've done before. Becca test knitted this pattern, and her advice is: trust the pattern! Take it a step at a time. The pattern is available in the shop for $5. Ravelers, look at it here.

SEPTEMBER 2009

Pattern: Las Calacas Danzantes by Erssie Major.
Thought I'd give you something fun to work on between now & Halloween.

Yarn: Cascade Heritage Sock. 75% superwash merino wool, 25% nylon.

You may also use Regia Exotic as a background color.
The pattern is free, and available in issue #13, Samhain 2008 Broken Bones of the AntiCraft. Here are some comments from Erssie: "It would be nice to see more people have a go at the Calacas socks, because so far I have got hundreds of messages telling me that people like them, but most say their socks skills are not up to making them which is silly as they are just normal Fair Isle socks, but people do have problems with tension when knitting stranded socks. It is all about adjusting gauge." *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
AUGUST 2009

Pattern: Rhombus Rib by Very Busy Monkey.
Such a fun knit that shows off semi-solid yarn beautifully. This creative pattern isn't difficult at all, though it looks complicated.

Yarn: Colorful Yarn Fingering. 100% superwash merino wool.
$23 per skein. One skein needed.
The pattern is $3, and available in the shop. To see this project on Ravelry, click her.

JULY 2009

Pattern: Granddaughter Socks by Karen Baumer.
Whee! This is such a quick, fun, and cute little sock. And a good reason to learn to crochet, if you don't know already. You do need to purchase the pattern from Interweave, I can't sell it to you. Here's the link.

Yarn: Crystal Palace Maizy, Panda Cotton, Panda Wool, Panda Soy, or Panda Silk. Variety of bamboo, cotton, soy, wool, and/or silk blends. All in 50g balls.
$6.90 - $8.75 per skein. You need three colors, and two balls of the color you use on the foot.

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

JUNE 2009

Pattern: Mary Jane Slippers by Whitney Van Nex.
Alright, so after the colorwork of the last month, I decided to give us a break this month with something summery, fast, and fun. This is a free pattern from the Purl Bee - please visit the website and print your own copy, as we won't be supplying copies (that makes it fair to the designers, who offer the pattern on their site in order to bring traffic, you understand.)

Yarn: Cascade Sierra. 80% Pima Cotton, 20% wool. 100g/191yds. $7.96 per skein. One skein will make a pair - if you choose to use contrasting colors, you'll have enough for two pairs!

GAUGE IS SUPER-IMPORTANT! Be sure to check. I went down a needle size to get gauge (I used US 5), and because cotton tends to grow with wear, smaller is better. I have washed mine twice and tumbled dry with no problems!

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

MAY 2009

MAY 2008

Pattern: Red Herring from Knitty.com. FREE!!

Yarn: Noro Kureyon Sock. 70% wool, 30% nylon. 100g/458yards. $19 per skein, 1 skein required for a pair - but if you want, you can use two different colorways, like I did (see picture below)

Shelly's Yarn Notes:
This is a love-it-or-hate-it yarn. The colors are glorious and have slow, beautiful transitions. They are very long colors, which you may think is great, because no other sock yarn does that; or you may find crazy because no other sock yarn does that. It's thick and thin, which you may find charming and interesting or annoyingly inconsistent. It's also not very soft while knitting. It softens with washing.

Shelly's Pattern Knitting Notes:
My foot circumference is 9", and the cuff was perfect but the foot a little loose. If I were to do it again, I'd decrease more after the colorwork, before the heel.

***Special Options***
1) You can use two different colorways, or split your ball of Noro and use the same colorway (the colors will still alternate on the cuff, because they're so long!).
2) You can do the stranded knitting as written, or you can substitute knits for the main color and purls for the contrast color and do the pattern that way.
3) You can just do your favorite sock pattern, because the main thing is to try the yarn this month.
